South Bay Children’s Health Center (SBCHC) was established in 1947 with a clear vision: to address the unmet health needs of low-income children in our community. What began as a dedicated dental clinic quickly expanded to encompass a hearing, vision, and special services clinic, reflecting our early commitment to comprehensive care.
In 1967, recognizing the growing need for accessible mental health support for young people, SBCHC took a significant step forward by establishing our Child Guidance Clinic. This crucial development was made possible through affiliations with the Los Angeles Child Guidance Clinic and the USC School of Medicine, underscoring our commitment to high-quality, evidence-based care.
Our dedication to evolving with the community’s needs continued in 2008 with the addition of the South Bay Youth Project. Formerly run by the City of Redondo Beach, this integration broadened our mental health services, allowing us to provide a full spectrum of support within our clinic environment and local schools.
Today, SBCHC remains steadfast in its commitment to addressing the most urgent unmet community healthcare needs of at-risk, and underserved youth. We prioritize community collaboration, working closely with other nonprofit organizations and local school districts to maximize our impact and ensure efficient service delivery.
Each year, SBCHC’s primary programs touch the lives of over 19,500 children, teens, and young adults, focusing on the critical link between oral and mental health and overall well-being:
From preventative care and routine check-ups to restorative treatments, we ensure healthy smiles and lay the foundation for lifelong oral health.
Our Dental Outreach Program provides free dental screenings, oral health education, and preventative care at local health fairs, schools, and community events.
Through our vital partnership with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, the Child Guidance Clinic offers evidence-based psychotherapy for children and adolescents up to 21 years old facing emotional or behavioral challenges.
The South Bay Youth Project proactively reaches out into the community, providing crucial support in familiar environments.
